Kaia Gerber, 16, steps out after being excluded from Met Gala for age

Her parents supermodel Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber dazzled at the Met Gala on Monday in New York City. And one day later, Kaia Gerber stepped out in the Big Apple while rocking loose-fitting trousers and a graphic sweater. The 16-year-old model did not attend last night’s Met Gala because the event has an 18 and over age limit, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The website reported the new 18 and above age limit for the Met Gala was brought to their attention by fellow teen star, Maddie Ziegler, 15. She mentioned to THR while at Tiffany & Co.’s Paper Flowers jewelry launch last week that she ‘can’t go’ to the Met Gala because she’s ‘not old enough.’ An unnamed guest at the same event speculated to the website that the age restriction has to do with the religious theme and Catholic church guidelines. The Hollywood Reporter noted that last year’s controversial smoking break inside a bathroom at the Met Gala could have caused the change too. Last year’s Met Gala had a scandal when stars like Dakota Johnson, Bella Hadid, Mark Jacobs, Behati Prinsloo, Stella McCartney, Ruby Rose and Paris Jackson took photos and videos inside a bathroom at the museum while smoking. Smoking was banned in New York bars, restaurants and commercial established since 2003. The New York Smoke-Free Air Act prohibits smoking in nearly all indoor workplaces, and it calls for a fine when violated. Met Gala organizers confirmed there is an age restriction but told THR that it wasn’t because of last year or the religious theme. They said to the website: ‘It’s not an appropriate event for people under 18.’ Nevertheless, Kaia was seen out in New York City Tuesday wearing cream colored trousers by Supreme and a coordinating sweater from the label. The cat walker donned black and white Adidas sneakers with small framed sunglasses. The teen pulled her locks back and in a center part, opting to go makeup free. Her mom Cindy wowed at the Met Gala Monday in a fitted red Versace dress; the look was a nod to her 1990 Academy Awards outfit – a Gianni Versace frock.
