(26 Mar 2018) US DESIGNER VIRGIL ABLOH NAMED AT LOUIS VUITTON MENSWEAR
Paris based fashion house Louis Vuitton has named American Virgil Abloh, the founder of street wear brand Off-White, as its new menswear designer.
Abloh will become, alongside Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing, one of only two persons of color in charge of a major fashion house.
The urban styles of Illinois-born Abloh that are shown in Milan have attracted a legion of fans including rapper Kanye West.
This announcement comes amid a flurry changes in the Paris fashion landscape recently, including last week’s move to name Vuitton’s outgoing designer Kim Jones the replacement of Kris Van Assche as Dior’s menswear designer.
Louis Vuitton CEO Michael Burke Monday praised Abloh’s “innate creativity and disruptive approach (that) have made him so relevant, not just in the world of fashion but in popular culture today.”
